"Teach me to build my dreams, Including others too . . ." (Medicine Cards, p124) www.spirit-animals.com/beaver-symbolism/ | ""Do [you] express [your] creativity by doing, or just by dreaming about it? Has [your] mind created so many obstacles to productivity that [you] feel like a failure before [you] begin?" (Medicine Cards, p126) I will admit that for most my life, I have dreamt about creating more than I have acted creatively and, recently, I find I often create obstacles in my mind that delay action and spur unwarranted doubt. By becoming more aware, I can identify when I'm creating these obstacles and take action to move past them. Beaver is a medicine based in action and provides valuable insight and instruction for those of us who tend to daydream more and 'do' less, especially if there is a lack of structure and no set deadlines. It is a medicine that does not resonate with me naturally. It involves a lot of planning and the action to back it up with little hesitation and no second guessing. Beaver is a doer and teaches us how to build our dreams with others in mind and with the willingness to do our part. "In working well with others, a sense of community is achieved and unity ensues." |
We find the courage to take action despite our doubts and fear. We find the biggest failure, at times, is the failure to act. "As we become more self aware, we acknowledge our connection to all living beings and we act in a way that supports our own dignity and that of all persons. Most simply, we act from love. We speak our truth, and we live our truth. This truth emanates from within. When we are living our truth, we are happy; we are in our dreams awake. We become the dreamer and the dreamed, and a world based in self-actualization opens up." (TKC, p23)
We should not leave our common humanity for others to decide and often divide according to some proclaimed divine will. It is up to each of us to decide and to act accordingly:
A Call To Prayer
Mystical,
Exotic;
Pulsing with melodic energy -
Ritual, solemn revelry.
Igniting remembrance.
It is time to pray.
Cleansing
Kneeling
There are commitments
That require reverence.
Bend to the Earth
Acknowledge the Creator
Let us pray for self-knowledge
To discern the difference
between right and wrong
Have faith in what you feel
In all you can be
Do not follow blindly behind
Those who thirst for power
and hunger for destruction
We are so different
and yet the same
our common humanity
revealed in the fraility
of our mortal flesh.
Such a small degree
separates you and me
friend or foe
Is not for fate to decide
We each must make a choice
. . .
I choose to believe
people are good
and that my fate is tied to yours.
